Elisabeth & Phil’s Wedding – St Andrew’s Church, Colney & Park Farm Hotel

Boy meets girl from Norway. Boy moves to Norway to be with girl, boy and girl decide to get wed. Boy and Girl bring entire Norwegian family and friends to the UK (along with local family) for one heck of a Wedding in rural Norfolk.  Cue good times!!

I’m sometimes a bit wary when taking “blind” bookings where I don’t get to meet the Bride and Groom before the big day.  After all, I’m going to be hanging out with these guys for around 10-12 hours on the most amazing day of their lives, so we have to get on…..right?  But I’m an easy going guy and, well , funnily enough 2014 was the year I took on more blind bookings than ever before.  Couples are living in another part of the UK and can’t really be chasing around to meet every supplier for their forthcoming wedding, so look at my work, or I am recommended, make a few tentative enquiries and ……then they book me.  But hey, back to the story of Liz and Phil…from Norway…did I mention that?

Anyway, on the day Liz was getting ready at Park Farm Hotel, where they would ultimately have their reception later in the day.  On my arrival Liz’s room was a busy hive of activity.  Mum, five bridesmaids, a make up artist and a hairdresser and lots of Norwegian being spoken.  Amongst five bridesmaids swilling wine and laughing more and more, Liz was loving every minute of all the fuss. She was so calm.

Before long the dress was hoisted over Liz’s head and two remaining and willing bridesmaids helped her get ready.  Soon the room became very quiet as one more bridesmaid left for the church.  Final adjustments to the dress were made, hugs exchanged and best wishes were given, it was almost time for Liz to leave.  That was my cue to leave early and head over to see Phil and his best man over at the church.  After a few shots of Phil and his best man Matt and it was soon time to usher in the last of the guests and take our places.  Liz glided up the road in a vintage 1960s  Zephyr Overdrive. Such an awesome car!

After some dress adjustments outside the church Liz was ready for the walk up the aisle, with Phil looking ever so slightly pleased.  It was a lovely and personal service with Phil’s friends serenading Liz and Phil as they signed the register, followed by Phil’s sister singing and playing piano.

After the service was complete it was soon time for an all-out confetti assault before heading to the river nearby for a walk along the meadow, a place Phil knows very well from his childhood.  Such a peaceful place, it almost felt like time was standing still, I felt Liz and Phil were really enjoying some time on their own before all the festivities of the reception began.

The rest of the afternoon and evening went really well, with key moments including the hilarious stories of Liz’s childhood being re-told by her mother.  Every girl in the room kissing the groom (long story) and, oh yes, some legendary dance moves from…….almost everyone at the wedding.  Such a sight, such fun times.
